The Dublin Weekend 2010

Friday May 28th to Monday May 31st

(***Bank Holiday Weekend in Britain and Northern Ireland)

2010 marks the 10th Anniversary of Project 2030.  We in Dublin are hoping that to celebrate this fact, as many people as possible will come to Dublin for our weekend.  Many of us in Dublin will be going to events in the other groups.  We know that events organised by other groups are worth going to, and we also know that the Dublin Weekend is worth going to.  Read on and see what we've planned for this year.

A few details are still to be worked out, but the provisional programme is as follows.

Friday
28th

We start with the traditional opening to any of the Project 2030 city weekends, with an informal gathering of locals and visitors.  You’ll have a chance to meet old friends and new over a relaxing evening, before what will be a busy weekend.  This gathering will take place at the Trinity Capital Hotel, Pearse Street, Dublin 2, from 8pm.  Feel free to arrive at any time after that. We’ll be there all evening!

Saturday 29th

A Choice of Day Events

1.
For the sightseers

A Special Day Trip to Kilkenny, known as the Marble
City and the Medieval City.

2. For the real walkers

A bit of hill-walking in the mountains near Dublin.

After your choice of event you are advised to get something to eat and get ready for…

The one and only evening event, and the biggest event of the Project 2030 year!!!

THE DUBLIN PARTY

As always, the biggest event of the Dublin Weekend is the Dublin Party, from 8pm to 1am.  The venue will be the Mont Clare Hotel, Merrion Square. We will have our own DJ, a bar and fingerfood.

After the party, the night, by Dublin standards, will still be young, so for those with energy left, we’ll hit the town!

Sunday 30th

-

12:00pm
Mass in St. Martin’s Chapel, 42 Parnell Square, with Fr. Hugh.

-          After Mass: Lunch in Murray’s on nearby O’Connell Street.

-

After Lunch: A visit to the Dublin Castle and the Chester
Beatty Library.

The Chester Beatty Library is an art museum and library which houses a great collection of manuscripts, miniature paintings, prints, drawings, rare books and some decorative arts. It includes artistic treasures of the great cultures and religions of the world.  It is a must-see place on a visit Dublin, and is highly recommended by Fr. Stephen in Kilwinning.  It also includes a restaurant and coffee shop where you can get something exotic.  It is all in the grounds of Dublin Castle, another place well worth visiting.

Sunday Evening

-

Traditional Irish music and dance on Sunday evening at one of Dublin’s music pubs:

This year’s venue will be the New Arlington Hotel, Dame Street, Dublin 2.

Monday 31st

As always, a few of us will be available as guides for any remaining guests, for a relaxing day around the Dublin area taking in some of the sights and wonders that you won’t have seen over the weekend.

I WANT TO GO, I WANT TO GO!!!!  What do I do next?

If you want to go on this weekend (and why wouldn’t you?)!!!  - Email Declan on dublin40somethings@gmail.com to be added to the list for more information in the coming months. Keep watching in here as updates are entered.  Book your flights and accommodation early, as prices always go up the nearer you get to the weekend.  It may seem too early to book, but you will save money now.  As always, co-ordinate with other members in your area on travel and accommodation.  Finally, when you are booking, make the most of the weekend and get over early on Friday and stay until Monday so that you don't miss anything.
